Tasting Notes: This naturally fermented Chardonnay is pale yellow in colour. Its delicate aromas merge lemon curd, tangerine, wet stone, toasted spices, and orange peel. An inviting palate has a creamy oatmeal texture balanced by crisp, fresh acidity that is woven into a satisfying pithy grip that gently fills with orange and grapefruit segments, salted lemons and crushed almonds. Whilst it has a lovely concentration, the wine maintains an elegant, linear shape rising towards a lasting finish that tickles at Drambuie, lemon zest, honeysuckle and pineapple, all promising excellent ageing potential.
Viniculture: The 2022 vintage from Lothian Vineyards' 3 blocks of Chardonnay was hand harvested at optimal ripeness. The fruit was whole bunch pressed, with a period of skin contact. Fermentation was started in stainless steel with ambient yeast. The fermenting juice was racked into a selection of French barrique, followed by a period of battonage to bolster the wine's mid-palate. Ten months of barrel maturation on the fine lees fleshed out the wine and added richness.
Prior to bottling the wine was lightly filtered to preserve its integrity.
