This cool climate chardonnay offers a refuge for those drinkers who avoid Chardonnay because of the wood they expect to find. This unwooded Chardonnay is fermented in a temperature controlled stainless steel tank and then left on its lees. These are the yeast cells that fall to the bottom of the tank after fermentation. Lees are super protective and with regular stirring keep the wine fresh and protected from oxygen. In time they lend the wine a sophisticated mouthfeel and length.
A pale lemon colour, the aroma is fresh and lively with frangipane, vanilla and cream fraiche intertwining with the enticing scents of nectarine, citrus and apple flesh with a dusting of spices and honeysuckle. A mineral-edged acidity upon entry, this mid-bodied breezy Chardonnay exhibits notes of crushed biscuits, lees and juicy orange segments. An oatmeal creaminess in the mid-palate continues to the long finish with a lick of vanilla on the conclusion.
